  • VP of Engineering

    Chicago, IL

Mac & Mia's goal is to define and evolve the process of consumer retail beyond e-commerce and physical structures. We have real empathy for the consumer and we operate with a real desire to strip out all of the friction from traditional retail models. We are constantly asking ourselves what is the future of the consumer experience, what does it look like, and how we can create it in a way that is intuitive, adoptable, and accessible. Help us build a retail service that will serve as the gold-standard in the curated-commerce space – And then, of course, let’s make it even better.

    Who you are:
We are looking for a person that has a wide network and is constantly wondering about how to bring together the best people they know to solve meaty problems. We want to build a modular set of product oriented teams that own design, building, testing and operations for a product which may be composed of multiple services.

    About the Role:
The VP of Engineering is responsible for building, maintaining and managing a set of autonomous engineering and data teams. They will set the foundation for the cultural underpinnings of what the Mac & Mia engineering team will measure itself against. They will set the technological direction for the company. They will drive the decision-making process while collaborating in the solutions process. You will be a leader and a mentor; a player and a coach.

    The Ideal Candidate:

    • You have relevant experience working as a developer and senior engineer (empathy for the process)
    • You have experience in engineering team management (empathy for the people)
    • You have experience in product or project management with a strong emphasis in business communication or domain driven design (empathy for the company)
    • You have horror stories of software/hardware development but are not jaded (too much)
    • You want to lead the charge in solving some meaty consumer personalization problems
    • You want to be effective in promoting high quality work, scientific approaches to defining processes and fostering an environment that is inclusive and fun
    • You take unbridled pride in unlocking the full potential of all teammates – Those up, down and sideways.

    What is Mac & Mia?

Save time shopping for your family so you can spend more time being with them - a simple notion that inspired working mom Marie Tillman to found Mac & Mia. Created out of necessity, Mac & Mia is an innovative new retail service that is saving busy parents hours of time by offering a remarkably easy way to personalize, build and accentuate their children's wardrobes. Our team has curated quality items from an offering of unique, specialty brands that are then hand-selected and delivered to your home – they will fit, feel, and look great on your little ones. Ultimately, we are removing all of the friction from traditional shopping channels, and replacing that friction with delight, discovery, and convenience.

You will work with, and collaborate across, a small but mighty team of back-end, full stack and design engineers. You will contribute to our web stack from static HTML and CSS to our dynamic interfaces. You will be the designer and author of building experiences that ultimately surprise and delight our customers.
