I’m a sucker for a great schedule. Always have been, always will be.
Once I became a mom, I felt that I needed a plan in order to manage my time wisely and feel like I’m conquering each week. So, I like to plan for each day and overarching goals that stretch throughout the week.
These aren’t life-changing events, these are more like “clean the powder room top-to-bottom, ensure Georgia’s homework is done for pre-school by Friday, make sure I have a babysitter lined up for work on Wednesday evening” events.
To me, it’s critical to have a plan to get it all done.

So, mom to mom, here are my tips for successfully managing your time:
Get a huge calendar.
We keep ours in plain sight on the side of the fridge, so it’s worth it to invest in a pretty one. I used to run a stationery business, and I’ve always adored Rifle Paper Co., so each year, I purchase this floral option. This serves as a spot for me to include birthdays we can’t forget, work schedules that are constantly changing, and my husband will make a note if he has to work late any nights due to a hectic business schedule. I glance at this throughout the day and make mental notes to talk to my husband about different events we need to plan for, or conflicts we need to address.
Meet with your spouse or significant other to divide and conquer the week ahead.
For as long as I can remember, my husband and I have been taking time to sit down during nap time on Sunday to discuss the upcoming week, loosely meal-plan and schedule our workouts. If my husband is going to be working late one night, I plan for dinner to be just me and the kids. I teach Pure Barre so we determine if he’ll be home to bail me out before I go to teach and plan for out-of-town events like weddings or trips so I know if we need to secure a babysitter. By spending time together to plan these things ahead, we can make sure nothing is swept under the rug and we don’t miss any priorities!
Create a daily schedule and run on to-do lists.
Every night, I sit down before I go to bed and make a schedule and to-do list for the following day using my Day Designer. I’m also a huge fan of the Wunderlist app, and I know plenty of people who manage their day using their iPhone Calendar. My trick is to treat everything like a meeting on your calendar.
Thankfully, both of my children are still on a fairly regular sleep schedule, so I know we need to be home by 1 p.m. each day in order for them to nap, and they both go to bed around 7:30 p.m.
These scheduled times serve as my major pillars for my day. From there, I block out my calendar: at 7 a.m., I’ll start the laundry; at 8:30 a.m., we are out the door to take Georgia to pre-school and Bodie and I are off to grocery shop and grab coffee; at 1:30 p.m., I have a Mac & Mia phone call with a new client. The great thing about the Day Designer and Wunderlist is they allow you to create a to-do list for each day.
I like to consider my top 3 priorities for the day, and plan a schedule that puts me in a position to accomplish those essential tasks.
It may seem trivial to create a calendar block for ‘empty the dishwasher,’ but I always have a sense of satisfaction when I cross something off my list.
These little moments add up to be the big moments, which is why I feel it’s so important to manage your time wisely… and kick your feet up after a successfully orchestrated day!
