Stylist & Mom

Tell us about your crew

My husband and I have a son named Hudson (1), and a Chocolate Lab, Jake.

How do you take your coffee?

Dark roast with almond milk…and preferably reaching my bloodstream before my son wakes up!

Where are you from, where do you live now?

I’m from Roanoke, VA but currently live in Portland, OR. We lived in TN and MI prior to Oregon and I wouldn’t be surprised if we add to that list in the future. The PNW is unlike anywhere we’ve ever lived and we are loving the change in scenery!

Describe your personal style

Polished casual classics, occasional trendy elements.

What inspires you?

People who work to make life better for those around them. Also, my son. I want him to be able to look back on his childhood and feel really proud of his mom, so that’s always in the back of my mind as well.

Where is your happy place?

Exploring a National Park with my husband and son. Yosemite and Zion are two of our favorites. We love adventure sports like climbing and rappelling and anything on the water. We haven’t totally figured out how to keep enjoying all of those things with a one year old in tow, but he’s already a great little explorer on his own and loves being outside. Either a National Park or a day at the spa…

Best style tip for children & parents?

If you struggle to come to an agreement, pinpoint the source of conflict and provide lots of options for compromise. My son started a total boycott of hats and winter gear this year, so that was a challenge. He’ll wear a hood, so I make sure that his wardrobe always has lots of options for layers that still look great. Comfort is a huge issue for a lot of kids and can be a source of conflict when it comes to getting dressed. If the issue is something like tags, collars, or a material that doesn’t feel great to them, find pieces to accommodate those things. A stylist can simplify the search and work to find pieces that you’ll both love without compromising on style or comfort!

What's your perfect Saturday?

A great morning workout like TRX or a Barre class, then smoothies with my husband and son before heading for a hike or to play at a park, followed by a trip to the salon for some quick pampering. We’d be home to put our son to bed and then pass the torch to our favorite babysitter for a night out with friends at a rooftop restaurant and bar.

What does "doing it all" look like in your world?

In this season of life, “doing it all” means that my son is happy and healthy, I’m spending quality time with my husband, maintaining relationships with the friends and family that matter most to me, pursuing opportunities that challenge and excite me, and still prioritizing time to take care of myself.

Why do you love working for Mac & Mia?

I love the opportunity to problem solve for families and simplify lives for busy moms. I love when a mom has really specific tastes and ideas and I’m able to provide exactly what she’s looking for. I receive a lot of requests for pieces that will allow for kids to dress themselves independently and love being able to help streamline a family’s morning routine. I’m also so proud to work for a company that really understands and values moms and am grateful for the opportunity to pursue professional goals while also spending lots of time with my son. I don’t have to choose between staying engaged in the work force or being there to take my him to a mid-day music class. Prior to Mac & Mia, I spent a decade in public education working for several large organizations and can say that the people here are what make it most amazing. Everyone is truly working together to provide parents with a unique and awesome experience.
